Family Trees BIOGRAPHIES AND FAMILY TREES
OF LOCAL FAMILIES - Part II

Disclaimer: please note that these genealogies are a compiled from various sources with the best of my ability and knowledge. I cannot vouch for the accuracy of same. This webmaster is NOT a descendant of these families. The information contained here is ALL that I know of them. They are not intended to be a full and comprehensive genealogy of a family line, but rather a genealogical link to individuals and families who lived in East Greenwich NJ and surrounding towns.

NOTE: On April 14, 2007 I received an email from Jim Hannold who has been researching this family. Please contact him at jehann2@comcast.net if you have questions about his comments shown directly below.

"I have been doing the family (Hannolds) history for the past sixteen years. I know the pitfalls, errors ane misinformation that can be had. Here is what I have come to believe Hans George Hannold. is noted to have come from Wurtenburg , Sometimes from Essens,Germany. I have no proof of that other than what many other Historians have passed on. It may be true."

George is noted as a passenger on two different ships, Captained by two different Captains. but arriving within a day or so of each other, and to the same port. Prof. T. Daniel Rupp in his history wrote a book called Thirty Thousand Immigrants reported Hans George arriving on the ship Royal Union, Captained by Clement Nicholson. Arriving on August 15, 1750 . The second is a book by Ralph Beaver Strassburger. Prof. William John Hinke in their book named Pennsylvania German Pioneers written in 1934. Both books are on file in Gloucester County N.J. They note Hans George as arriving on the slip St Andrew, captained by Robert Brown, arriving on Saturday August 18,1750. George was the 87th passenger to sign an oath of allegiance in Pennsylvania
Witnessed by Thomas Lawrence, then the mayor of Philadelphia. I have chosen the Strassburger book because I believe he had more information than Rupp. However I cede that Rupp was an outstanding Historian. Both of these books are on file at the Gloucester County Historical Library in NJ. Hans George had two wives. first wife was Johanna Drawarth Her birth (not documented) said to be 1728. Married George in 1755. Gave birth to Johann Isaac three months later but in the same year, 1755. Gave birth in 1757 to a girl child (Date not documented) except that it is recorded in the records of St. Michaels Zion German Lutheran church that she was christened there. It is alluded that the mother died at childbirth or shortly there after, and that the child followed on or around 1757. We have no burial ground for Johanna. We do have an unmarked grave in the family plot for a small child and it is noted in the Colestown cemetery records that a child of Hans George is buried there, no other clues. Colestown Cemetery is located in Cherry hill N.J. There is no other mention of Johanna or the Child after 1757. Most of my documentation came from the German Lutheran, Muhlenburg Seminary. in Germantown PA. There is an abundance of information on the Hannold Family of Hans George there. Again, it is "assumed" that Johann Isaac was raised by George's second wife.
George married again in 1759 to Regina (Rebeccah) Wolf. There is little that I have found on Johann Isaac's young life. however I know that he was only twenty one in 1776. The congressional records states he was well known and that he lost part of his fortune due to the war. I just don't think he could have amassed much in the way of a fortune at that age. I have a copy of the wedding bans of Hans George and Johanna from the NJ archives. I will attempt to Email it to you. I have a copy of Hans Georges last will and testament..(Glou County Hist.Lib.) Hans George's house on the corner of Kings Highway and Potter street is sill standing and occupied by lawyers.(It has been renovated quite a bit but the old place is still recognizable. Johann Isaac married a girl named Elizabeth (last nome?). Some say she was a half breed Indian. They birthed nine boys. Frederick, 1772-1834, Isaac jr., 1780-1824, John P. 1782-1848, Joseph 1785-1865, Simeon, 1787-1863, Samuel B. 1792-1865, Eli 1795-, Amos 1799-1870, Isaiah, 1795-1868. Many had children and I am at this time trying to search them.

I am a descendant of Samuel B, He married Sarah Carmen. He had eight children, Robert, George R. Harry, Josephine, Samuel E.T., Priscilla, Rebeccah. I descend from Hans George to Johann Isaac, to Samuel B. to George R. ( who had .George W. Willy, .Frank Harry, Della, Anetta). Frank Harry is my grandfather to my Father Frank Edward (he had two sisters). My Father married Doris Stubbs they had four of us. Me, James E. Bro. Frank William, Sis Delores May, and Sis Lois Marie. We lost our brother Frank in 1989.

"On March 13, 1680, John Pancoast (Pankhurst in England) with his wife Elizabeth and their sons William and Joseph--according to Mt. Holly, N.J. records, -- came from Northampton, England, and located in Burlington Co., N.J. It is tradition...that this John, his wife and sons came over on the ship Paradise, William Evelin, Master. In "The Grants Concessions" and the Original Constitution of West New Jersey it is shown that John Pancoast, with William Penn and others, was one of the signers of "The Charter and Fundamental Laws of West New Jersey," March 3, 1676. The same records show that John Pancoast was a "Constable for the first Tenth--called the Yorkshire Tenth," named on the 2nd day of May, 1682. Again he is named as being confirmed by the Governor, the 12th day of the third month, called May 1685, as member of the General Assembly for the Province of West Jersey. And, again in Smith's History of New Jersey, John Pancoast is named as one of the "Constables for Yorkshire Tenth, 1682." Moreover, the record of wills, Trenton, N.J. shows that John Pancoast's will, dated November 30th, 1694 was probated December 22, 1694. He died early in the same month of that year."
