It was a beautiful sight with flag-waving students and teachers in attendance. The ceremony began with the traditional salute to the flag of the United States.

Speakers included East Greenwich School Superintendent Joseph Conroy; Loretta G. Savidge, Principal of the Samuel Mickle School; Joshua Meyer, Principal of the Jeffrey Clark School; George Popp of Mickleton from the Anthony T. Calista VFW Post 5579 (and a committeman of East Greenwich Township), and Janice Brown, East Greenwich Township historian. Honored guests attending were veterans Howard DeVault (of Mt. Royal), Ed Corker (of Mickleton), Lou Marshall, and Fred Feuerborn (of Clarksboro).

Several students, with the assistance of Samuel Mickle School principal, Loretta G. Savidge raised the school's flag, then lowered it to half staff to mourn the death of former President Ronald Reagan. Patriotic poems written by the students were read aloud. Several patriotic songs were played with the students, teachers and guests singing along. Janice Brown, the township historian, took the students back in time to talk about what their school would have been like 125 years ago.
