HONORING VETERANS
Flags flying over the veteran's memorial in East Greenwich NJ

On May 29, 2004 I was honored to be invited to join George Popp, Howard Devault and Alvin Smith, all local members of Anthony T. Calista VFW Post 5579 of Gibbstown, NJ as they placed flags on graves of veterans in East Greenwich New Jersey.

We started out in the Colonial [St. Peter's Cemetery] in Mt. Royal NJ where flags were placed on the graves of the following veterans:

VETERANS buried in COLONIAL CEMETERY in MT. ROYAL, owned by St. Peter's Episcopal Church (in Clarksboro NJ)
Abram/Abraham Jones - Revolutionary War [Lock monument]
Joseph Locke - Civil War
John Tonkin - Civil War
George Tonkin - Civil War
James Weatherby - Civil War
Reverend Francis E.R. Chubbuck - Civil War

I performed some research later and learned that Francis E.R. Chubbuck was a former pastor of St. Peter's Episcopal Church.

We continued on to Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery on King's Highway in Clarksboro, NJ.

VETERANS buried at ZION UNITED METHODIST CEMETERY, Clarksboro NJ include: Samuel Beatty, B.W. Hughes, Henry Hughes, Jacob Hughes, George Jennings, Capt. George Sigars, Charles Sweeten, John P. Bradway, Joseph Wood, Joseph Bocher, Unknown Soldier.
Next we visited the Shady Lane Cemetery.

We continued on to the Veteran's Memorial at the East Greenwich Township Municipal Building on Democrat Road.
